Mid Carolina Soccer Team Rules and Expectations 2011

I handed this out to the girls in a paper copy form at the beginning of the season. I apologize if you did not get this.

Parents and players need to read and be aware of all rules and expectations

Commitment at practice and games
You are always expected to be at practice and at games UNLESS you are home sick, have a death in the family, or have a family emergency. Even injured players should come to show their support unless instructed otherwise by a doctor.

If something else interferes and you know in advance please have a parent write a note in advance. Please communicate with me in regards to all of these issues.

Missing practice for homework is NOT an excuse. Being a student athlete means you need to find a balance between sports and academics. If you are unable to have passing grades then sports may not be a good fit for you at this time.

Unexcused or missed practices may result in game suspension or dismissal from the team.

Behavior
You are expected to behave appropriately in the classroom, on the field, on the bus, and in the community. Any bullying behavior (physical, verbal, in writing, etc) will be considered as a threat to our team’s reputation and could result in immediate dismissal. Your behavior is a reflection of our soccer team. Anything that is embarrassing or detrimental to the team can result in game suspension or dismissal from the team.
(problems with classroom or school behavior, ISS, OSS, etc can result in game suspension or dismissal from the team)

Any players caught with drugs or alcohol will immediately be dismissed from the soccer team. Any player who is arrested during the season will be immediately dismissed from the soccer team. These are very serious offenses and they will not be tolerated.

SPORTSMANSHIP is extremely important for both the student athletes and the family members.
Soccer is an emotional game and it is easy to get caught up in the moment. We all need to control our emotions, stay positive, and accept the decisions of the coach and the referees. Coaches and referees are only human and we make mistakes too. Understand that there will be bad calls made during the games.

DO NOT trash talk opponents or strike out physically in an inappropriate manner. Soccer is a rough, contact sport, but there are ways to be aggressive without being a danger to other players on the field. We will learn more about this as the season progresses.

Please NEVER go to a referee during or after a game to complain, ask questions, etc. This action can result in MC being put on suspension. Remember your actions and behaviors create the MC reputation.

I will expect my players to thank the referee after each game even if we do not agree with some of the calls made.

If we win, we will not boast or brag and I expect my players to line up and shake hands with the other team and say, “good game.”

Please NEVER go to the opposing coaches and complain, ask questions, etc. I expect my players to say, “good game.”

When a player is ejected from a game they may get a 2 game suspension. This is according to high school league rules. Coaches are fined and suspended if we get ejected from a game.

Uniforms and Misc
You will need black socks, white socks, and NOCSAE shin guards. Cleats are necessary for game playing players.
Everyone is expected to help as a ball retriever during games.
Everyone is asked to help with food – snacks for away games.

The girls will be participating in “PSYCH-UPS” these are small tokens to Psych-Up their peers before a game. (This is optional)
These consist of:
A brown paper lunch bag (decorated with Psych-Up sayings)
A piece of fruit
Water, Gatorade, Powerade, etc (no soda please)
Some candy
Granola bars, Nutrigrain Bars, pretzels, etc

OR feel free to create your own Psych-Up bag idea. This is just a great way to get the players psyched for a game and it also gives them a snack before the games.

Playing time:
Playing time is at the discretion of the coaches. Please understand that coaches are with their players everyday at practices. We know which players are in better physical shape, as well as, those players who have higher skill levels. We will do our best to allow all game playing players to play during a game, but please do not question why your daughter is sitting on the bench longer than another player. You just have to trust that we, as coaches, know what we are doing.

This year we have 20 uniforms for the 20 game playing players. There are 2 alternates in case any game playing players are injured or ineligible. The remaining players on the team are practice players only and will not play in any games this year. If they choose to continue to practice with us they will gain the physical fitness and skill level and be more likely to make the team next year. They are also eligible to come to the games with the rest of the team.

This is the first year for an all girls soccer team. It is important that we come out strong and let everyone know that we DESERVE to be here. If we can do that we may be able to add a girls varsity next year. This means more need for girl soccer players in the future.

I am looking forward to a GREAT season. I know we have some wonderful ladies in personality and in talent.

GO REBELS!
